Blog Journal #5

Blogging has been a new and interesting experience for me. I enjoy the opportunity to reflect on my thoughts and share them in a more personal, informal way compared to traditional writing assignments. One thing I’ve liked is being able to express my ideas creatively and connect them to real-world experiences. However, sometimes I find it challenging to keep my writing concise and engaging for a wider audience. Through this process, I’ve learned the importance of writing with purpose and clarity while still maintaining my voice.

As I begin exploring artificial intelligence in education, my initial thoughts are mixed. On one hand, I see great potential for AI to personalize learning, provide instant feedback, and support differentiated instruction. On the other hand, I worry about over-reliance on technology, especially in K–12 settings where human interaction and social-emotional learning are so important. I think AI can be a powerful tool if used thoughtfully and in balance with strong teacher-student relationships.

When trying out Generative AI, I used it to brainstorm lesson ideas and draft sample questions for classroom discussions. It was helpful for saving time and getting quick suggestions, especially when I was feeling stuck. However, some of the responses felt too generic or didn’t quite fit my teaching context. Next time, I’d give it more specific prompts and refine the output more carefully. I’ve learned that while AI can be a useful support tool, it still needs a human touch to make the content meaningful and relevant.

In my teaching practice, I could see myself using Generative AI to help with lesson planning, creating differentiated materials, or generating example questions for assessments. It could also be useful for helping students with writing support or tutoring in areas where they need extra practice. To address ethical concerns, I would make sure to use AI transparently and teach students about how it works, its limitations, and the importance of academic honesty. I’d also review anything AI-generated to ensure it aligns with my teaching goals and values.
